Mexican Dish Recipe
A History of Traditional Mexican Dish recipe
Traditional Mexican dishes are often a far cry from the fare you may be accustomed to eating in Mexican restaurants and take out venues. Traditional Mexican food and dishes is actually a blend of traditional Indian dishes and Spanish favorites. As the people of Spain began to settle in Mexico and mingle with the native Indians already living there, the two peoples found that each culture brought foods from their own native dishes that were surprisingly different from anything each had ever known. For example, the Spanish people found that among the traditional Mexican foods commonly eaten in Mexico by the native Indians there were fruits such as mangoes, pineapples, coconuts and avocadoes that they were not familiar with. In addition, they were surprised to find the presence of such common staples as maize (corn) and chili peppers along with beans. Through the years, the Spanish people introduced their own traditional favorite foods into the Mexican diet, such as garlic, rice and various meats. You may find it interesting to note that the traditional rice that is served in many Mexican restaurants is always referred to as Spanish rice. This is for very good reason. It is actually not a traditional Mexican dish recipe, but was derived from the introduction of rice into the Mexican diet by the Spaniards. Throughout history, other cultures have also had a strong influence on traditional Mexican cooking. For example during the 19th century, people in Mexico came in contact with the French.
Many of the bread products that are thought of today as traditional Mexican favorites are actually an evolution of French and Mexican cooking. Today, if you visit Mexico, you will find that traditional Mexican food varies widely from one region to the next. Some regions are more well known for their use of fish while others rely on soups and stews for the basis of their diet. One area, near Puebla, has made the creation of a thick, sweet sauce served over poultry products an art form. Regardless of which type of traditional Mexican food you prefer, remember as you enjoy it that your favorite dish may not be entirely a traditional Mexican dish after all.
